Show Us Your Life - Show Us Your Hometown

Kelly over at Kelly's Korner is have a fantastic tour of America this weekend with Show Us Your Hometown.  I have TWO hometowns, the one where I grew up and the wonderful place I call home now.

I currently live in the beautiful historical town and first capital of North Carolina, New Bern, population 28,586.  Our beautiful river town is found at the juncture of the Neuse and Trent River and we are currently celebrating  or 300th anniversary.  I love going to our historical downtown area and looking through all our cute little shops and restaurants.  New Bern is just a quick 30 minute drive from Atlantic Beach and Emerald Isle where you will locate our fantastic NC Pine Knoll Shores Aquarium and historical Fort Macon.  You sure do need to come and visit our lovely area and take in all the sites, history, and some beach time too.
New Bern is the birthplace of Pepsi invented by Caleb Bradham in his pharmacy in 1898.
Home to the annual Mum Fest
. . . . .and the first Governor's mansion of North Carolina, the Tryon Palace
. . . . . and the North Carolina History Education Center, scheduled to open August this year
Our favorite place to eat with the kids, Cow Cafe
Home to the Bear's
Home of author Nicholas Sparks

So come walk the streets of my town,
beautiful historical New Bern, North Carolina.

My other hometown that I grew up in is just as beautiful a place as New Bern, with a lovely history of it's own and I love returning there to visit when I can.  Southbury, Connecticut population 19,702 established in 1787.
This section of the town hall is where our church, Southbury Baptist Church, first met before we built our own building. I accepted the Lord as my Savior under the spiritual leadership of church planter Pastor Norwood Waterhouse.

Bullet Hill School is located on Main Street in Southbury. Built in 1789, it is one of New England’s oldest surviving brick schoolhouses.

Southford Falls State Park, we used to love going here to hike the paths around it.
My best friend Erin had her wedding photo's taken here.
Southbury is known for it's horse farms
This beautiful Country Store was just a few miles from my home and we used to walk or ride our bike to go get penny candy.
Pomperaug High School, where I graduated in 1987
. . . .  and although they built a beautiful shopping center, this used to be the site of a fantastic pumpkin patch that we would go to ride on hay rides and pick our pumpkins each fall.
I hope you have enjoyed seeing my two hometown's, they are both very dear to me and I hope you visit them someday.

Head on over to Kelly's Korner and link up a post about your hometown.

  3. Thanks for reminding me that I had forgotten Nicholas on my post. Yes he and his family live in New Bern, and he writes most of his books based on the areas along coastal North Carolina.
