Living in the &

People see the Ampersand symbol on our Mary&Martha products and wonder what is that all about?

The & in our slogan Living in the & refers to
Having Faith AND Works
its about being a Mary AND a Martha
its about having a heart for God AND serving people practically in our world today.
When you see an & it should remind you to keep you mind focused on eternal things
like relationships and to serve others through the details like Martha did for Jesus.

Next time you see the & symbol let it remind you
our focus should be on eternal things
and let it remind you can do that through serving others.

Inspiring Feminine Office Spaces

When I am trying to create an office niche for myself, of course, I want to create a space that inspires my creativity and speaks to my feminine side.
In reality, I have a very small square footprint to work within and the space I have to work with for office space has to work for both my husband and myself (but I am the one who uses it primarily).
BUT if I was specifically looking to design a space just for me, then I would choose to have bright space with sleek creative organization systems.

I would love a clear organized desktop and in front of me a wall that I could pin inspiring images, swatches or have books close at hand and either a pink or white chair.

I love soft hues of pink or teal with white being the primary surface areas and chrome for a cool environment.

I hope these spaces inspire you as much as they inspire me.  You can find these and more on my Pinterest boards HERE.

I'm being inspired to make some more changes to my own office niche at home . . . . I wonder if my husband will approve of what I would like to do ;-)

Happy Nappy

Craft Room Envy

We have lived the past 13 years with my parents in a 3 bedroom open floor plan space that provides us just the right amount of what we NEED in our part of the house, but not necessarily the storage space or the things we WANT.  I could truly use a space for Homeschooling the boys and for running by photography business, which does involve a certain amount of laying stuff out to bundle and craft the final photo package, so right now I am having space and craft room envy.  So as usual, I am going back to my design school roots and searching magazines, books, and the internet for inspiration and filling up my Pinterest boards with my ideas. One of my favorite places to hunt on the internet is Houzz, so many great ideas pooled together in one place and organized by category and who designed them.

By now you may have noticed I am drawn to very bright white natural lite spaces and this space has that and organization in spades.

I love the organization of the next one, and if the blinds were gone or open maybe I would feel more LOVE for it, but I still really think this is an amazing design but this design is much more specific to its function.

This next one is a very warm space and VERY family friendly, in some ways the previous two spaces almost leave you feeling like you can't touch them because they are so clean looking but thisspace by Melinda Miles Interiors is a very easy going cozy space that you feel like the whole family can work in.

The final one I want to share with you has storage a plenty, this designer really was creative with the architecture of the cabinetry.  I love the long workstation along one wall and then shelves and deep file drawers along the other wall with the cobalt blue accent wall.  I do wish the island was a little more of a functional work island with some built in storage to it, but other then that I love this space by Great Neighborhood Homes.

DIY Dressing Table

I am all about designing and creating some of our own furniture and decor pieces, especially when we live on a fairly tight budget.  This summer we are in the middle of several DIY projects one of which is the deconstruction of our dining room window seat.  This project lead to the construction of a Dressing Table I had been drawing and designing in my drawing pad for a month now but was inspired to do NOW  due to the materials that came out of the deconstruction of the window seat.

We removed our window seat to provide more space around our dining room table and provide us more flexibility int the arrangement of our dining table and hutch along with a small desk we plan on putting in there for one of our sons for homeschooling.  BUT back to the dressing table and how THIS came about.
When I began work on taking apart our window seat, I recognized right away that the tops might be the same size as the dimensions I needed for the floating dressing table I wanted to build next to my dresser which I had recently painted.  So I took some measurements and sure enough two of the lids would work to form the top and bottom.  So with my drawings in hand my husband and I set out to put my drawings into reality and instead of going out for our 15th anniversary, we worked side by side and created something together.

FIRST we cut all the pieces to our desired sizes using  recycled 3/4" plywood for all of the dressing table parts and (1) 2x4 cut into 3 desired lengths for our project to create the spine that would attach in to the studs of our wall thus making it a floating table.

SECOND we pre painted all of the parts a high gloss enamel white

THIRD we pre assembled the dressing table, pre drilling all of the holes, counter sinking the screws and then assembling it completely.

Finally before taking the dressing table in to be installed filled in and touched up with another quick coat of paint.
NOW I will have to admit this part was NOT easy, much to our sorrow, the studs were not as easily located as we would have liked and as a result we had to use some anchors in some places we didn't anticipate having to use them, but believe me the end result is I could sit my five year old on this dressing table.
The finally look with the dresser in place . . . . .
I still have to find a mirror and I have a few prints I plan to hang and the final touch will be updating the cushion to the bench.  I am so happy with the result.  There is a 4 inch compartment for my curling iron and holes toward the back for the cords to drop through so I don't have cords in my way.   I also love the fact that I can now have my collection of milk glass back out in use and on display on my dressing table.  When it is TRULY all dressed the way I want it I will go back and take more final pictures and post more.

This was a fun project and even more special because my husband and I did it together on our anniversary.

Fashion Purchase Reviews

As you know I have started representing some boutiques through my instagram feed and in addition providing some feedback here on the blog and links within my pintrest feed. At this time I am not being offered ANY free products, I have just been making purchases on my own of items that I am attracted to for my own wardrobe updates and sharing with you some of my not-so-expert opinion on what I think of them. For camparisson sake I am 5'3" and wear a 14/16 and I am a 38D, obviously the models in the original sale pictures are taller and thinner then I ;-)

Today I am going to start with the Kasey Sweater, which arrived yesterday this comes from a shop called the Brass and Barrel.  The Kasey sweater is a loose fit, long sleeve, round neck, hi-low very light weight sweater.  It has a dropped shoulder with rounded hems and a center back seam.  The body is made of brushed hacci slub faric that is a very soft fuzzy texture, providing warmth and great drape.  The sleeves are made with brushed hacci slub rib.

This sweater sells for $25.00 and currently is only available in small and medium.  I am wearing a Large and it runs "roomy".  I would say this is really a all season sweater, because the material is light enough that on cooler summer nights I would wear this with shorts down to the beach for a walk. Although there were some delays in the sweater arriving to me, the seller was very great with communication and kept me informed about restock and when my sweater was on its way, Great Shop to work with and many more great fashions!

This is the MUST HAVE Maxi dress of the season comes form JuJu Lane Boutique.  Currently there are only 4 left 2 Navy Large and 2 Black Small, this sells for $30.00.  I am wearing a size large, it is a little tight on the bust for me but not uncomfortable, the upside to that is I don't have to wear a bra with it, it keeps the girls in tight HAHAHA.  It is long and for my 5'3" frame I may end up having the hem taken up a little before the spring season truly hits here in the south.  But overall this dress is Super Comfortable and I know I am going to LOVE IT!!

This is made of  95% Modol and 5% Spandex Handwash in Cold Water.  This shipment on this was only delayed because it was a scheduled PRE-ORDER but arrived just as scheduled and packged perfectly from the store.

Finally the Emma Top, I get SOOOOOO many compliments on this top when I wear it. This top comes from the Avadycc shop, the shop owner is super awesome and took great care with my purchase, even calling to comfirm my purchase. Truly is one of my favorite tops of the season but it does run big and wish I had purchased it one size down, but alas stock was limited and XL was my only option.  Presently stock is down to (1) medium left, and I don't imagine they will see a restock of this item at this point in the season.

The Emma Top sells for $29.00.  It  is a lightweight sweater knit tunic that has sheer contrast panels on the sides and at the bottom. This loose fit tunic of neutral coloring makes it easy to match with any pair of leggings or skinny jeans in your closet. The extra bonus with this sweater is the pockets!  Throw a long pendant necklace, and you'll be ready to rock the day.
